Tolles Swings Sod Poodles to 8-2 Win

The Ames Sod Poodles licked the Great Lakes Loons, 8-2. Hunter Tolles deserved a big chunk of the credit. The right fielder was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Sod Poodles. J.R. McDowell, who is tied for 4th in the MID with a 1.23 WHIP, was the winner. He's now 5-12. The loser was Jim Manning. The Sod Poodles sport a record of 48-86.
Ames second baseman Saxby Nordheim contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 28th hit of the season and put the Sod Poodles ahead, 4-2.
