The Lansing Lugnuts beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 4-1, at Cooley Law School Stadium. Starting pitcher Leroy Johnson was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The winner was Johnson. He threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Shane Yost. Thurston Thompson recorded his 24th save for Lansing.

Tre' Aguilar had a big 2-run double for the Lugnuts in the bottom of the first inning. With Lansing leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a changeup from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Shane Yost and swatted a double to center. It was his 21st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lugnuts ahead, 3-0.

Said Lansing manager Mitch Carmichael: "Leroy came into the game mentally strong. He dominated."

With the victory, the Lugnuts upped their record to 74-56.
