2059 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Peoria Chiefs.
Thanks in large part to second baseman Joey Schultz, the Fort Wayne TinCaps beat the Peoria Chiefs, 6-3. Schultz went 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Zezu Velazco came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 4 innings. His record now stands at 2-1. Hector McRoy recorded his 5th save for Fort Wayne.
With Fort Wayne leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Schultz hit a fastball from Quinn Hayes for a run-scoring triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the TinCaps ahead, 2-0.
"Anytime you're seeing it well, it's a good feeling," Schultz told the Fort Wayne Bulletin.
Fort Wayne now sits at 41-90, while Peoria falls to 52-79.
