Peoria Wins, 3-0, in Extra Innings
|
The home squad pulled out a thrilling walk-off win.
Starting pitcher Mário Valdez gave the Peoria Chiefs a rock-solid performance, helping them defeat the Ames Sod Poodles, 3-0, in 10 innings. Alex Hyser, who is tied for 8th in the MID in saves with 17, picked up the win in relief. Kade Williamson took the loss for Ames.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Peoria. That's when Pablo Gutiérrez hit a 3-run home run off 23-year old right-handed pitcher Kade Williamson to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"Mário never lets off the gas," said Peoria manager Joe Long. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
Peoria is 73-57 and Ames, with the loss, 70-60.
