Loons Clip Sod Poodles in Tight Contest, 2-1
|
Dow Diamond played host to some exciting baseball.
The Great Lakes Loons earned a close win over the Ames Sod Poodles, thanks in part to Aron Kuchan. The Great Lakes left-hander, who is tied for 5th in the MID in quality starts with 13, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. The first-place Loons, at 78-44, lead the Midwest League Eastern Division by 5½ games.
Chase Overbay was the walk-off hero for Great Lakes. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Loons center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We hit some balls hard and didn't get rewarded for it," said Ames manager Jake DiVita.
