Dock Spiders Come Back Late to Top Chiefs, 6-1
|
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders scooped up a win at Ballpark of Burlington, dumping the Peoria Chiefs, 6-1. Welby Rowe, who is tied for 4th in the MID in complete games with 1, was essential to his team's success. Fond du Lac reliever Thomas Davis picked up the win, upping his record to 4-6. Jerónimo Chacon absorbed the loss. The Dock Spiders sport a record of 45-76.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Hugo Paz came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Peoria pitcher Ollie De Los Santos, he hit a 2-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Fond du Lac on top, 2-1.
Paz said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
