Wolverines Come Up Short at Ames, 3-2
|
The Ames Sod Poodles did just enough to sneak past the Flint Wolverines, 3-2, at Community Field. Ames pitcher Steven Talley, in particular, had a standout performance. Talley, the winner, moves to 3-3. He threw 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 4 walks. Mason White picked up the save for Ames, his 4th of the year.
Eli Dale drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances for Ames. The 23-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Thomas De Torres. It was his 19th RBI of the season.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Talley told the Ames Herald. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
The win makes Ames 58-59.
