A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Ames Sod Poodles and Fond du Lac Dock Spiders.

Due in large part to catcher Jim Heckman, the Ames Sod Poodles sunk the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, 9-3. Heckman went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Ames now sits at 56-58, while Fond du Lac falls to 34-80.

Ames used a clutch at-bat from Roberto Beltre to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Sod Poodles ahead, 6-3. It was his lone hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"We gave it the old college try," said Fond du Lac manager Michael Frazier. "But the old college try wasn't good enough."
