Cubs Slap 7-4 Loss on Quad Cities
The South Bend Cubs finished off the Quad Cities River Bandits, 7-4. Much of the credit belonged to shortstop Jackie Lofton. Lofton was 1-1 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Cubs. By defeating Quad Cities, the 4th-place Cubs improved to 59-49.

Santiago Reyes had a big 2-run double for the Cubs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With South Bend leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from José Colón, who is tied for 2nd in the MID in innings pitched with 142.2, and swatted a double to center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 4-1.

"I like our moxie," said Cubs manager Mickey Smith.
