In a tight contest at Modern Woodmen Park, the Quad Cities River Bandits edged the Beloit Snappers by the score of 8-7 in 12 innings. Quad Cities center fielder Rafael Nieves, who blasted 2 home runs, was a key contributor. Lucas Merle, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings. The triumph puts Quad Cities at 53-50 for the season.
In the bottom of the 12th, with the score tied, Nieves hammered a solo home run to win it for Quad Cities.
"The crowd went wild," Nieves said.
