Ames used a superb performance from starting pitcher Conrad De La Cruz to down the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 5-1. De La Cruz got the win, improving to 4-4. He gave up 2 hits and walked 3 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. Emiliano Aguayo recorded his 4th save for Ames.

Finn Howell had a big 2-run home run for the Sod Poodles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Ames leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Todd Knock and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Sod Poodles on top, 4-1.

Said losing manager Nathan Halker: "Give the Sod Poodles credit. They played a better game than we did."

The second-place Sod Poodles now have a record of 63-38.
