River Bandits Come Back Late to Top Woolly Mammoths, 4-3
|
The Quad Cities River Bandits downed the Westside Woolly Mammoths, 4-3. The hitting star was pitcher Cesar Ricker. Ricker came in in relief and pitched to 18 batters for the River Bandits. The winner in relief was Jesse Hepworth. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. After today's action, Quad Cities sits at 53-44, while Westside falls to 45-52.
Coming to the plate with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Quad Cities first baseman Osvaldo Gaghiardi had a chance to be the hero. Facing Westside pitcher Dustin Cuella with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Gaghiardi hit a run-scoring single.
"We saved our best for last," said Gaghiardi.
