The Toronto Blue Jays downed the New York Yankees, 8-5, at Rogers Centre. Vick Verde led the way, going 1-for-1 for Toronto. Jack Tritt got the save, the 2nd for him this season. New York is 4-7 after the defeat.

Toronto designated hitter Robbie Franke contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 16th hit of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 4-2.

"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Toronto manager Adam Luthe.
