|
Lansing turned a good effort from starter Jeremiah Yurcak into a win over the Peoria Chiefs at Cooley Law School Stadium. The final score was 2-1. Yurcak yielded 1 run over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 6-0. Earning the save was Suelita Cordero. He's now cashed in 17 of 20 save opportunities.
Had Mackenzie Pierce not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Pierce hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Lugnuts.
"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Pierce told the Lansing Chronicle.
Lansing goes to 54-28. The win puts them 4½ games up in their division.
