Win Lifts Woolly Mammoths to 42-41
|
In a tightly-contested game between the Westside Woolly Mammoths and the Cedar Rapids Haymakers, pitcher Cory Neal was outstanding. The Westside left-hander propelled his team's 2-0 win. Neal, now 1-7, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing no runs. The win puts the Woolly Mammoths at 42-41, while the Haymakers drop to 34-49.
The Woolly Mammoths got a big at-bat from center fielder Derek Black. For the game, Black went 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Westside a 1-0 lead.
"Tough win," said Neal. "We had to earn it."
