The Madison Muskies faced a tough opponent in South Bend pitcher Juan Taveras, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium by a final score of 4-1. Taveras went 8.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner was Korey Sierra, who threw 82 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with no runs on 3 hits. Stephen Morgan earned the save, his 20th.
The Muskies had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 4-1, Madison, with one out. South Bend, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. John Klinger dug in at the plate, but on a 0-2 sinker, he hit into a double play.
Madison now owns a record of 47-29.
