Extra-Inning Win by Cubs Over Woolly Mammoths
|
The South Bend Cubs defeated the Westside Woolly Mammoths, 8-4, in 15 innings. Joey Russell played a big role. Russell was 5 for 7 with a home run, 4 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Cubs in the win. South Bend, now 25-46, holds down 8th place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
Parker Egan drove in one run for South Bend. The 20-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the 15th. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Cullen Mentzel. It was his 10th RBI of the season.
In postgame comments, Russell said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
