Loons Win 4th Straight, Take Down Whitecaps, 7-1
|
West Michigan had no answer for Great Lakes Loons starter Rex Shofner, who flummoxed Whitecaps hitters as the Loons cruised to victory, 7-1. Shofner, the winner, moves to 5-3. He threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. The victory gives Great Lakes a record of 36-27.
Kendrick McEnroe had a big 2-run triple for the Loons in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Great Lakes leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Koda Burgos, who is tied for 7th in the MID in wins with 6, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Loons ahead, 4-0.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Great Lakes manager Eli Coalter.
