Cubs Beat Sod Poodles, 3-2, at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium
The Ames Sod Poodles got a superb performance from pitcher Chap Shockley, but the South Bend Cubs still won the game, 3-2. Shockley threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. South Bend reliever Ron James picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tetelo Manriquez took the loss. With this game in the books, South Bend is 23-36, Ames 26-33.

Shawn Roberts chipped in for South Bend, stroking a crucial run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh inning. For the game, the shortstop went 2 for 5 with a double.

"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Ames manager Jake DiVita. "We just didn't cash in."
