John Evans was a major factor in the 7-2 Memphis win over Virginia. The Blues center fielder was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. P.J. Fernandes picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-1. He struck out 6 in 8.1 innings. The loss lowers the Virginia record to 1-8.

With Memphis leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Evans hit a curveball from Frost McMahon for a 2-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Blues ahead, 4-1.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," Evans told the Memphis Daily News.
