Great Lakes Beats Lansing, 2-1
|
The Great Lakes Loons, behind a great outing from Gonzalo Marquez defeated the Lansing Lugnuts, 2-1, at Dow Diamond. The winner was Marquez. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Russell Bearden. The Loons now have a record of 32-19.
Had Ramón Cabrini not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Cabrini hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Loons.
"That's how you're going to be successful," said Loons manager Eli Coalter. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
