Dragons Throttled by Whitecaps, 1-0
|
West Michigan starter Scotty Hill put the Dayton offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his cutter in leading the Whitecaps to a 1-0 win. Hill got the win, improving to 4-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 0 over 7 innings. He allowed no runs. Jet Choi closed the game out for West Michigan, earning his 6th save.
The Whitecaps got a big at-bat from designated hitter T.J. Ortiz. For the game, Ortiz went 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave West Michigan a 1-0 lead.
"Not everyone likes pitching duels," said Hill. "But I do."
The second-place Whitecaps go to 20-12.
