The Ames Sod Poodles beat the Cedar Rapids Haymakers, 3-1. Ames pitcher and East Lansing, Michigan, native Rocky Ploetz led the way. M.J. Prosperi picked up the save for Ames, his 6th of the year. The win for the Sod Poodles lifted their record to 17-15.

The Sod Poodles used some clutch hitting to beat the Haymakers, a good example being the at-bat of Brander Schmidt in the top of the eighth. With two down, Schmidt gave his team the lead, 3-1, when he hit a 2-run single.

"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped Cedar Rapids manager Chris Mathias. "Obviously."
