Cardinals Nip Mets, 2-1
|
St. Louis beat New York in a rain-soaked ballgame.
The New York Mets were defeated, 2-1, by the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field, even though Carl McManus pitched well for New York. St. Louis reliever Jay Horton picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Carl McManus absorbed the loss.
St. Louis won the game in part because of Jacob Sehlhorst. The first baseman ripped a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 2-0. For the game, Sehlhorst had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said New York manager Jim Cheatham. "We just didn't cash in."
The win lifts St. Louis to a record of 2-6.
