Erminio Tomsjansen never let the Rangers get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Cubs to a win, 6-1. Tomsjansen picked up the win for Chicago, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 1-1. Luke Bogosian earned the save, his 1st, for the Cubs.

The Cubs got a lift from designated hitter José Armijo, who in the bottom of the third stroked a 2-2 changeup into right for a run-scoring triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 2-0.

"Winning is hard sometimes," said Cubs manager Phil Ross. "This one was nice to get."

The loss drops Texas to 5-3.
