Big Day for Burns in 5-4 Lugnuts Win
|
Lansing center fielder Howard Burns was instrumental in helping the Lugnuts triumph, 5-4, over the Dayton Dragons. Burns went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. Mark Lay, the winning pitcher, is now 2-2. He went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 0. Picking up the save was Von Morello, his 3rd.
With Lansing leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Burns hit a cutter from Steve Olver for a 2-run double. It was his 7th double of the season and put the Lugnuts ahead, 3-0.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Burns told a local reporter after the game.
The loss drops the Dragons to 15-11.
