Blue Jays Trip Expos, 9-5
|
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Montreal Expos, 9-5, at Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays got a fine performance from second baseman Caleb Phillips, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Hoyt Coltrane earned the win to go to 1-1. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Billy Phan recorded the save for Toronto, his 2nd of the season.
With Toronto trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the third, Phillips hit a cutter from John Sullivan for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 5-3.
"It feels good, just a great win all around," Phillips said after the game.
The loss has the Expos at 4-4.
