Dayton Mettle Tested in Tight 2-1 Win
|
Ames got a terrific performance from pitcher Walter Hinojosa, but it wasn't enough to beat the Dayton Dragons. Dayton won the Fifth Third Field contest, 2-1. Hinojosa threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Dayton reliever Terrance Izzo was the winner. His record is now 1-0. M.J. Prosperi took the loss. The win brings the Dragons to 12-2, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
The game came to an abrupt end with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. On a pitch from M.J. Prosperi, Ranidel Franco drew a walk, driving in 1 run. It gave Dayton the 2-1 win.
"Was I getting worried?" said Dragons manager Jason Quinlan. "Nope." Then he added, with a wink, "There was never a doubt in my mind."
