The Lansing Lugnuts had to overcome a fine performance from Ames pitcher Flip Gaddis to grab a 3-2 win at Community Field. Gaddis allowed no runs over 5.1 innings. Sting Drager, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 1-1. Newt Miller sewed up the save, his 4th.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Arthur Yazzie came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Ames pitcher M.J. Prosperi, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Lansing on top, 3-2.

"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Ames skipper Wil Coffey.
