Sod Poodles Rally For Late Win Over Cubs
South Bend wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Piero Sardini, falling to the Ames Sod Poodles, 4-2. Sardini threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The win was credited to 22-year old right-handed pitcher Aidan LaMontagne in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Earl Fuller took the loss. Ames is now 1-4.

Ames used the timely hitting of Morris Erlenbach to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sod Poodles on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We're in a little bit of a dry spell," said South Bend manager Mickey Smith.
