The Ames Sod Poodles and Great Lakes Loons delighted fans at Dow Diamond.
The inspired effort of Ames right fielder Felipe Reyes was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-3, to the Great Lakes Loons. Reyes was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Zenaido Mejia was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Don Drain stitched up the save, his 1st.
The Loons got a big at-bat from third baseman Balvino Ramírez. For the game, Ramírez went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Great Lakes a 2-0 lead.
"I just try to be a dog, have good swings, good at-bats," said Ramírez.
Great Lakes is now 3-2.
