The Houston Astros eked out a 3-2 win versus the San Francisco Giants at Minute Maid Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Murray Smearman. He was terrific. The win belonged to Jon McNear in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Zach Coulter took the loss for San Francisco. Houston goes to 1-2.

Houston got a clutch hit from Victor Castellon. The left fielder launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.

"The crowd was raucous," said Smearman.
