Gilbert Scrapes Out 5-4 Win
|
The Gilbert Geckos took Scottsdale pitcher Maddox Ling's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Hohokam Park. The final score had Gilbert getting past the Salamanders, 5-4. Ling went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 8. The win went to Charles Conner in relief. His record improves to 1-0. David Scanlon took the loss. Henry Scott closed it out for Gilbert, earning his 1st save.
Michael Rogers came through with a big-time hit for Gilbert. The pinch hitter smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Rogers. "And not try to do too much."
Gilbert, now 19-13, holds down third place in the Arizona Rookie League South Division.
