The bats were silent much of the day at Camelback Ranch. But 19-year old right fielder Carson Schmitt produced just enough offense to carry the Geckos past the Scottsdale Salamanders, 3-1. Schmitt went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jim Manning snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-1 on the season. Steve Howell suffered the loss. Gabriel Okoro got credit for the save for Gilbert. It was his 1st of the year.

Early in the game, Schmitt had a 2-run home run for Gilbert. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Geckos on top, 2-0.

"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Gilbert skipper Jason Blahut. "I can't complain."

Gilbert is now 15-19, Scottsdale 19-15.
