Riding the 3-hit performance of the 18-year old third baseman Gonzalo Cervantes, the Scottsdale Salamanders stopped the Buckeye Quahogs, 8-0. Vincent Russell earned the win for Scottsdale. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 2-0. The first-place Salamanders are now 13-5, the Quahogs 1-17.

Scottsdale shortstop Matthew Huckleberry contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 19th hit of the season and put the Salamanders ahead, 1-0.

"Pedal to the metal" is how Scottsdale manager Jason Wood described his team's approach.
