Braves Curb Aces, 6-4
|
Though he had a terrific game, Kameron Nicol could not prevent his team, the Alexandria Aces, from absorbing a loss. Mississippi won the game, 6-4. Nicol hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Caleb Iyas, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 8 and walking 0. Mississippi is last in the Southern League Southeast Division with a record of 32-60.
Skip Renfroe had a big 3-run home run for the Braves in the bottom of the second inning. With Mississippi leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from Konnor Jackson, who is tied for 6th in the SL with a 8.2 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Braves on top, 5-1.
Said Mississippi manager Sandy Estrada: "We squared some balls up."
