Montgomery pitcher Andy Maloney had a large part in his team beating the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, 5-0. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. With the win, Montgomery upped its record to 48-30.

It could have been a different outcome for Montgomery, had it not been for Joel Shelly, the 24-year old left fielder . Shelly contributed a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put Montgomery up, 2-0.

Maloney attributed the win to his team's "dogged determination."
