The Altoona Curve could not turn a fine performance from second baseman Stanford Birdwell into a win. Instead, the Quebec Metros prevailed, 6-5, in 10 innings. Birdwell was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Simon DaCosta snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Jerad Brown suffered the loss. The win brings the Metros to 4-13, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.

The decisive blow was delivered by Doménico Chavez in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Jerad Brown to win the game for Quebec. The home crowd went nuts.

"It's a satisfying feeling, to win like we did," said Chavez.
