The skies opened up and the rain fell at Smokies Park.
Tennessee Smokies starter Alexander Sheppard turned in a top-notch performance against the Alexandria Aces at Smokies Park. The result was a win for the Smokies, 5-1. In 6.2 innings, Sheppard surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run.
Tennessee center fielder Ethan Brennan contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 24th hit of the season and put the Smokies ahead, 2-0.
"Alexander did a good job of managing their lineup," said Tennessee manager Kraig Fagan.
At 28-47, the Smokies find themselves in 7th place in the Southern League Southeast Division.
