Curve, Ray Pin Bad Loss on Baysox
|
Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of Bowie fans. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Curve had to.
The Altoona Curve scored a convincing win at Prince George's Stadium, defeating the Bowie Baysox, 12-0. One of the hitting stars was 22-year old left fielder Jimmy Ray who went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Kevin Skevington, now 3-1, was credited with the win in 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Monte Pabey closed the game out for Altoona, earning his 1st save.
Billy Whitney, the Altoona catcher, contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to make the score 2-0, Curve. For the game, Whitney went 1 for 4 with a walk.
"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Bowie manager Mike Pascarella. "They smoked us."
The defeat makes Bowie 7-6.
