Braves Throttled by Smokies, 5-1
|
Spirited fans greeted the Mississippi Braves for their clash with the Tennessee Smokies.
Tennessee rode a fine outing from starter Jack Meloche to victory over the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park. The final score was 5-1. Meloche got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 5 hits and walked 3 over 7 innings. Meloche allowed 1 run.
Woody Bess, the 24-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Bess contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the first inning to put Tennessee up, 2-0.
Bess told a Tennessee Herald reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
Tennessee, at 25-29, sits in 6th place in the Southern League Southeast Division.
