Engineers Rally Late to Nip Missions
|
The Shreveport Engineers topped the San Antonio Missions, 4-3, in Southern League action at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Shreveport pitcher and Penns Grove, New Jersey, native Tim Briere. Briere, now 7-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Freddie Mercado earned the save, his 7th, for the Engineers.
Shreveport won the game in part because of Eugene Billingsley. The left fielder ripped a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Engineers ahead, 4-3. For the game, Billingsley had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
Shreveport manager Kip Fors commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
The Engineers boast a remarkable 41-9 record.
