Flying Squirrels Deal Braves 5-1 Defeat
|
St. Petersburg pitcher Steven Ruckel had a large part in his team subduing the Mississippi Braves, 5-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The winning pitcher was Ruckel, now 5-2. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Luca Goff earned the save for St. Petersburg, his 9th of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for St. Petersburg, had it not been for Charlie Farina, the 26-year old shortstop . Farina contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put St. Petersburg up, 2-0.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Ruckel.
The win gives St. Petersburg a season record of 24-23.
