Smokies Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Tennessee Smokies and the San Antonio Missions, Noah Wilks was the X factor. The Tennessee right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Wilks yielded 1 run over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 5, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-5. Skip Schott Jr., summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Tennessee center fielder Luís Sánchez contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 24th hit of the season and put the Smokies ahead, 2-1.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Wilks.
After today's action, Tennessee sits at 17-20; San Antonio slips to 14-23.
