St. Petersburg Downs Tennessee, 6-3
|
The St. Petersburg Flying Squirrels downed the Tennessee Smokies, 6-3, the largest share of the credit belonging to designated hitter Stan Reid. On the day, Reid was 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles for the Flying Squirrels. Maurice Mick went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits. The right-hander struck out 3 and walked 3. With the win, he's now 1-1 this season. Curtis Lynch got the save, the 9th for him this season.
St. Petersburg used a clutch at-bat from Brian Engen to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Good, blue-collar kind of win," said Flying Squirrels manager Flip Brooks.
The win lifted the St. Petersburg record to 16-15.
