Getting a good performance from catcher Alejandro Ortiz, the Midland RockHounds defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, 4-3. Ortiz went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the RockHounds. Larry Bowie got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. The first-place RockHounds lifted their record to 22-10.

Ortiz had a timely hit for Midland in the top of the seventh. With Midland trailing 3-1, he turned a 0-1 cutter into a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season, making it 4-3, Midland.
