Beat Goes On for Engineers, Win 4-3 Over Scouts
|
Shreveport pitcher Freddie Mercado did his part in helping his team beat the Chattanooga Scouts, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The winner was Mercado. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Louis Amato. Picking up the save was 23-year old right-handed pitcher Jim Hovekamp.
Bob Shaw chipped in for Shreveport, stroking a crucial run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh inning. For the game, the first baseman was 2-3 with a double and a walk.
"The clubhouse vibe is great," said Shreveport manager Kip Fors.
Shreveport, at 15-5, is off to a blistering start.
