The Hartford Yard Goats knocked off the Providence Crabs, 4-2, in Eastern League action at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Hartford pitcher and Las Vegas, Nevada, native Jeff McElroy had an outstanding performance. The winner was McElroy. He threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Mark Dunning. Hartford is now 58-75, Providence 71-62.

Tomas Ortiz had a big solo home run for the Yard Goats in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Hartford leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Mark Dunning and punished it. The result was his 16th home run of the season, which put the Yard Goats on top, 2-0.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Ortiz told the Hartford Gazette.
