Gateway pitcher Hayden Mars did his part in helping his team beat the Somerset Patriots, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Justin Mandros earned the save, his 4th. The Grizzlies go to 58-75, putting them 7th in the Eastern League Southwest Division.
L.J. Roycroft Jr. had a big solo home run for the Grizzlies in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Gateway leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Thurston Hill and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Grizzlies on top, 2-0.
Roycroft Jr. said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
