Gateway Rallies for 5-2 Victory

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Phoenix Perry into a win. Instead, the Gateway Grizzlies prevailed, 5-2. Perry threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. Gateway reliever Hadley Poncherello picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Alexas Freund took the loss. Picking up the save was Chad Helton, his 16th.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for José Moreno? The 23-year old third baseman Moreno stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Gateway up, 4-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Gateway manager Elijah Holmes.
Gateway is in 7th place in the Eastern League Southwest Division with a record of 51-68.
