Rallying RubberDucks Get 3-2 Win
|
Akron pitcher Dennis DeGroat had a large part in his team subduing the Halifax Frigates, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Luther Hannah notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 4-4. Andy Edwards earned his 22nd save, after closing out the game.
Had Harald Cain not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Cain hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the RubberDucks.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Halifax skipper Ruben Figueredo, "and it cost us."
Akron now sits at 66-52, while Halifax falls to 54-64.
