Behind an impressive start by Vince Payne, Providence beat Yonkers, 3-1. Providence reliever Wenceslas Cox got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jasper Ferreira was tagged with the loss. Yonkers falls to 5-3.

Tony Schneider helped out the Providence cause in the top of the seventh inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the third baseman went 1-4.

"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Providence skipper Adam Baron.
